Who’s new in Le Bureau

Working in a cowork space means that your ‘colleagues’ come from a diverse range of industries. Three of Le Bureau’s newest members explain who they are, what they do and why a cowork space works for them.

KEVIN KENNEDY, STRUCTURAL TECHNICIAN

IMG_8150What do you do?
I work with construction engineering consultancies, essentially as an outsourcing tool, doing their 3D modelling and 2D drafting. I work on all sorts of different construction projects; it ranges from anything like mapping steel and concrete frames in 3D to planning submissions. In the past, I’ve worked for Price & Myers, who are a very well known engineering consultancy, and firms like Tunstall Smith King.

How did you get into your job?
I trained at college then took on an apprenticeship and trained all the way through. Working for companies like the above was great experience but it got to a point where I was ready to strike out on my own.

What brought you to Le Bureau?
After I decided to go freelance, I started off working at home but found it really depressing – I felt shut indoors all the time. I knew I wanted to get out and into a proper office so I Googled things like ‘cowork space Lambeth’ and ‘cowork space Wandsworth’ and Le Bureau came up. I live in Putney, so it is local.

What’s the benefit of working in a cowork space?
Le Bureau in particular has 24/7 access so I can come and go as I want. I like being around people and there’s a really good energy here.

ELENA CROFT AND TRISTAN BAKER, TALENT AGENTS

Two talent agents in a cowork spaceWhat do you do?
Elena:  We work for Red 24 Management, a boutique talent management company. We look after presenters, voiceovers and commercial work performers who  appear in adverts. We also provide management for actors like Daniel Huttlestone who has appeared in ‘Into the Woods’ with Meryl Streep and ‘Les Miserables’. Layla Anna-Lee is a presenter who is massive in sport – she launched her career being the voice of the 2012 Olympics and now she works for ESPN, Adidas Football an RedBull TV. We have TV chefs, radio presenters, entertainment correspondents… it’s a really broad spectrum.

What’s your role?
E: I am head of the presenters department so I run the careers for our nine presenters  – everything from organising their contracts and planning their career to fee negotiations and their general wellbeing. We’re more than just a booking agency – we offer a 360° service.

Tristan: I look after the diary and once Elena has signed off a contract, it is my job to sort out the logistics: make sure our presenters get from A to B, make sure they are well-equipped and well prepared. I also monitor their online presence. My job is really varied; one day I might be going clothes shopping for our male clients, the next I’m going with them to an event.

How did you get into your job?
E: My grandma was a talent agent so I suppose it runs in the family! And a lot of my family work in TV as writers, producers and directors, mainly in comedy. I went to Edinburgh University, which is renowned for its comedy, and worked every summer doing various things like running press offices. When I got to London it just seemed like the natural thing to do.

T: I studied film at university so my interest has always been in entertainment, and the TV industry in particular. I started out assisting producers at a sound recording studio and helping out ’the talent’ when they came in. It gradually dawned on me that I wanted to work more on the talent side and the natural step was to move to a talent agency. An opportunity at Red 24 came along and it was perfect.

What drew you to a cowork space?
E:  Being a boutique firm means we are a small team and our work can be quite insular so it’s great to work somewhere with a busy social scene. We’re both based in south London so it made perfect sense to come to Le Bureau.

Why Le Bureau?
T: There is a really great tea selection! [laughs]. When you work somewhere every day, little things like the desks make a huge difference. It’s minimalist but there are nice touches and the management team are great. Most of the other businesses here are small and young like ours so we are in good company. It’s a pleasure to come here every day.

GEMMA FOUND, SECRETARY AND ADMINISTRATOR AT PHYSIO COMES TO YOU

3 physios stand against a blue wall
Gemma, founder Rebecca and Gabriela of Physios Come to you

What do you do?
I work for Physio Comes to You,  a  private physiotherapy company. We specialise in domiciliary physiotherapy and our therapists visit the client at a place of their convenience, whether that’s at work or at home.

What does your role involve?
As a secretary and admin support it is my job to take enquiries, source available physios, finalise arrangements between the physio and the patient and complete reports and medical note documentation to support the patient’s treatment.

What’s the inspiration behind the business?
Our founder, Rebecca Aldridge, saw there was a gap in the market for physiotherapists in London that treat people in their own home or workplace. She started Physio Comes to You in 2007 and has never looked back.

What drew your company to a cowork space?
One of the big things for us is networking. In a cowork space you can meet people just by going into the kitchen to wash up!

Why Le Bureau?
Rebecca came across it and chose it firstly because it looks great. It is a really vibrant office space that is still very professional.
