The days of setting up an office from your hotel bed are long gone: the world has embraced co working and shared offices have popped up everywhere from America to Australia.
From bold design in Berlin to slick grandeur in Singapore and beach-side ‘hot’ desks in Bali, these are six of the best co-working spaces on the planet. Happy travels.
Silversquare in Luxembourg
Belgium-based Silversquare has just opened their newest office in Luxembourg.
With space for around 50 firms, the office has a chill-out zone, stand-up work-stations and a tiered seating area where events are held.
And whilst it may look a little boxy from the outside, inside the look is industrial luxe with glass-panelled meeting rooms, pendant lights and an abundance of wood and clean lines.
Membership fees start at €395 per month for flexible working, ranging up to €1,560+ per month for a private membership which includes the use of private working space. It’s not the cheapest, but if you’re just in town for a few days you can buy a day pass for just €25.
Dojo in Bali, Indonesia
Literally putting the ‘hot’ in ‘hot desk’, Dojo is located minutes away from the beach and a popular surfing spot, and its no-shoe policy sets the laid back vibe.
It’s small but buzzing with creativity. There are conventional Skype pods and meeting rooms, or members can nab a beanbag beside the tranquil pool.
An unlimited package costs $203 per month and includes unlimited access, Skype credit and a mailing address. Cheaper packages are delineated based on how many hours you work: limit your work-week to 25 hours and membership will cost you just $56. With a setting like this, you’ll want to.
Patchwork in Paris, France
Patchwork is cited on just about every best co-working list thanks to its central Paris location, colourful furniture and open, airy spaces.
This shared office is particularly geared towards architects, photographers and bloggers – hence the visual appeal – and has the usual assembly of desk space and meeting rooms where ideas can flow. It prides itself on the quality of its service, personal touches and an ethos that its operation should fit around the rhythm of its members’ work.
There’s 24/7 access, showers on site, unlimited coffee and a full programme of seminars where members can learn, network and socialise.
BeacHub in Koh Phangan
If you’ve ever sat at your desk daydreaming about lying on the beach, BeachHub is here to make your fantasies come true.
The clue is in the name: at this co-working ‘office’, members share a desk on the sand, or laze in a hammock in the ‘wall free space’. There’s a gym and yoga studio on site; events, master classes and talks, and a connected café that sells delicious, nutritious food.
Daily, weekly and monthly passes are available with the premium option costing 6,500 THB (around £150 per month), making BeacHub not only affordable but practically irresistible. Look out for more locations opening soon including Hawaii, Mexico and Costa Rica.
St Oberholz in Berlin, Germany
Berlin has thoroughly embraced co working so there are plenty of shared offices to choose from if you are working on the move. St Oberholz offers not one, but two locations and is one of the first and best in the city.
Members have access to the newest office in Zehdenicker as well as the original space in Rosenthaler Platz, which was founded in 2005. Design is a draw: both offer urban, contemporary touches alongside large sash windows and parquet flooring.
These guys are big on coffee, too: there is a whole page dedicated to the caffeine kick on their website and they blend their own brews.
The most attractive part is probably the price: full membership is a modest €189 per month but that whittles right down to an hourly pass, and you can work remotely for a fully, future-facing work environment.
The Great Room in Singapore
You won’t beat The Great Room for atmosphere. Hospitality is at the heart of what they do and there’s a restaurant and bar forming part of the working complex.
Over 180 business call The Great Room home, with finance, tech and design companies all mingling to create a networking opportunity of dreams.
Memberships are tailored around the needs of each business with an array of options including use of the ‘Hot Office’ – a private office that members can access via a token system and use for anything from a private brainstorm to a bit of peace and quiet.
It’s on the more expensive end of the scale, with monthly membership charged at $380 a month but if you’re looking for work, life and luxury, this is where you’ll find it.
