5 best places to celebrate St Patrick’s Day around Wandsworth

Happy St Patrick’s Day! You’ll find the best craic around Wandsworth this fine Friday, so check out our five of the best and celebrate the Emerald Isle’s national day in suitable fashion.

  1. Ramble Inn, Tooting

Don’t be put off by the Ramble Inn’s exterior; we all know that looks can be deceiving.

Head inside and you’ll see why this Tooting hotspot is a perennial favourite with locals. You’ll be greeted by warm Irish hospitality, table service and some fairly decent grub.

There is live music to get your night off to a swing, a popular quiz night, big screens that show sport and a regular poker night should the luck of the Irish be with you.

  1. Tir Na Nog, Wandsworth

The name of this family-run joint translates as ‘Land of the Young’ and according to ancient folklore is a place of everlasting beauty and joy.

Beautiful? Well, the pool table and big screens don’t necessarily count but the décor is unmistakably Irish and the ‘joy’ part is covered thanks to stout on tap and live music on the weekends.

Located in the heart of Wandsworth, its location can’t be faulted and is worth a visit for the character.

  1. Father Ted-a-Thon, Clapham Grand

The Clapham Grand have come up trumps with their decision to screen multiple episodes of Father Ted, accompanied no doubt by copious amounts of “DRINK!”

If you’ve never seen it, Graham Linehan’s hilarious comedy follows Fathers Ted, Dougal and Jack as they administer their parish on the remote Craggy Island.

The Grand is screening three episodes as voted for by the public – could it be the one where the Fathers get stuck in a women’s lingerie department? The one where a whistle is stolen? Or the one where Ted and Dougal enter the Eurovision Song Content..?

Dress up in suitably holy attire to be in with a chance of winning a prize.

  1. The Magic Garden, Battersea

It’s all about the music at The Magic Garden this Paddy’s Day. The Le Bureau favourite welcomes Northern Irish group Balkan Alien Sound and Nigel Burch and the Fleapit Orchestra for a night of noisy Irish melodies.

Known for their eclectic blend of celtic, klemzer, gypsy and Balkan music, Balkan Alien Sound are festival aficionados and run their own International Music Club in Derry, so they will have you up on your feet in no time.

Nigel Burch’s acoustic three-piece might be best described as a “folk punk cabaret” so be prepared for spontaneous and lively ditties that you can drink and stomp to.

  1. St Patricks Day at SO.UK, Clapham

For those who like their Paddy’s Day festivities a little more refined, SO:UK is serving up Guinness alongside cocktails and live music and is sure to be buzzing.

This place gets busy on the weekends so there might be a queue and often an entry fee but both are worth it to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in style in the centre of Clapham.
