Christmas may be right around the corner (just over a week to go, but who’s counting/panicking?) but for the fun lovers and perennially organised amongst us, the only date worth prepping for is the 31st.
And where better to spend New Year’s Eve than in Battersea – home to the famous park, a coffee roasting plant, a home for dogs and cats and, of course, Le Bureau co-working space. In fact Battersea has something of a reputation for fostering entrepreneurs and small businesses, and there are plenty of places for hard-grafters to let their hair down and bid farewell to 2018.
Here are our top picks for a brilliant New Year in Battersea.
Add a touch of Gatsby glamour to your night at one of Tooting’s newest bars. The speakeasy-themed hotspot has migrated from its original home in Brixton and boasts a terrace, food menu and extensive cocktail list. New Year is set to be a rip-roaring affair, with 2-4-1 cocktails, great deals on champagne and a DJ on the decks. Book at skiddle.com or check out their website at https://tooting.ekcovision.com/
The Exhibit, Balham
Get freaky at this Balham stalwart’s Freak Show night, where guests are encouraged to come dressed as their alter ego. There are set dinner menu options, or you can rock up in fancy dress and get stuck straight into the bubbles. Let your imagination run riot.
NYE Glitter Party at Infernos, Clapham
See 2018 out in wild style at Infernos, Clapham High Street’s premier nightclub, and a rite of passage, frankly. If you’ve never been, expect to drinks lots, dance lots, pull lots (if that’s your bag) and – if you do intend to ring in 2019 here – get covered in lots of glitter.
Northcote Records, Clapham Junction
If you enjoy celebrating a new year with a healthy dose of nostalgia, check out the Hip Hop House Party at Northcote Records. Your soundtrack comes courtesy of a four-piece hip hop band and the venue is open until 3am. Dance till you drop.
Around the World in 80 Days Ball at Battersea Evolution, Battersea
This is the big one. If you truly love New Year, you won’t mind the £185 price tag for a ticket – and you’ll love the four-course banquet, circus performers, dodgems and dedicated taxi rank. Put on glad rags and start 2019 the way you mean to go on.
